Christopher J. Kauffold
Mr. Kauffold is a 1989 graduate of the School of Music at Central Michigan University and holds a Bachelor of Music Education degree. He later earned his Master of Education degree from Saginaw Valley State University.
Prior to coming to Lake Shore Public Schools, he was Director of Bands at Hanover-Horton High School, Brandon High School, and Unionville-Sebewaing Area Schools. Mr. Kauffold came to Lake Shore Public Schools in 1994 and served as Director of Bands at both Lake Shore High School and Kennedy Middle School. After three years, the band program at Lake Shore grew to the point where it became possible to hire an additional band director. At that time Mr. Kauffold decided to become the Director of Bands at Kennedy Middle School .
As an educator, Mr. Kauffold is a member of the Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association (MSBOA) and the National Band Association. Mr. Kauffold has been the Teacher of the Week for both the Detroit News and the Macomb Daily, and has been named to "Who's Who in American Education" six times. He was named Teacher of the Year for Kennedy Middle School in 2003 and has received numerous "Shorian Salutes" from the Lake Shore Board of Education. He has served as 2nd V.P. for Solo and Ensemble and 4th V.P. for Marching Band in MSBOA District XVI. Currently, Mr. Kauffold has just completed service on the state executive board as Vice-President for Jazz Activities for MSBOA.
As a musician, Mr. Kauffold is a member of the the Detroit Federation of Musicians, AFM local no. 5, and performs at various venues around the metro-Detroit area on acoustic bass and piano. Mr. Kauffold has served as organist for Christ Lutheran Church in New Baltimore, MI, and currently composes and performs (trumpet and string bass) for services at St. Paul Evangelical Lutheran Church in Grosse Pointe Farms, MI. He is also an active jazz composer/arranger and his music is performed by various ensembles around the metro-Detroit area.
